IELTS TEST FORMAT
READING
The Reading test comprises 40 questions, each worth 1 mark. The maximum score is 40,
which determines your band score ranging from 1 to 9.
Time taken: 60 minutes
WRITING
The examiners assess the Writing section using detailed criteria of IELTS 9 bands across four areas: Task Achievement, Task Response, Coherence & Cohesion, and Lexical Resource & Grammatical Range & Accuracy.
Each area carries equal weightage. The Writing component includes Academic and General
modules, with Task Response holding more significance. Make sure to write clearly as
illegible writing may affect your marking.
Time allotted: 60 minutes
SPEAKING
Examiners assign band scores for four criteria: Fluency & Coherence, Lexical Re- source,
Grammatical range & Accuracy and Pronunciation. Each criterion carries equal weightage.
The test consists of three parts and revolves around a friendly con- versation, covering
topics related to your past, present and future.
Duration: 11 to 14 minutes
LISTENING
In the listening section, you'll face 40 questions. The materials are recorded, played
only once, and you get 10 minutes to note down your answers.
